How can I prepare for the Duolingo?
To prepare yourself for the Duolingo, you can take multple PRACTICE TESTS in your Duolingo account. To do this, simply click on PRACTICE TEST in the top field of the main menu. We advise you to spend a few days/weeks preparing for the test. Hint

Unlike the TOEFL, the Duolingo does not separate the areas of SPEAKING, LISTENING, READING, and WRITING. Rather, the test attempts to cover the overlap of these areas through the categories CONVERSATION, COMPREHENSION, LITERACY, and PRODUCTION. For each of these areas you get so-called SUBSCORES (partial results), which cumulatively make up the final result.
This is how the test is structured:
Preparation:
Introduction and briefing (5 minutes)
Make sure that your computer's camera, speakers and microphone are working properly.
Download the DTP app to your smartphone.
Connect your cell phone to the app via QR code and make sure that the monitor and keyboard are being filmed
Be sure to switch your cell phone to “do not disturb” mode
Follow the instructions to perform the “ear scan” to prove that you are not using headphones or other aids.
Hold your ID card up to the camera
Check / confirm the test rules and requirements.
Adaptive Test
Listen to statements and write what you hear in a blank space (listening and writing comprehension).
Identify and select correct English vocabulary from a list of words.
You are shown pictures and you have to say the correct English vocabulary for them (e.g. picture of a shoe - you say SHOE into the microphone)
You are shown a picture and you have to describe the content of the picture in your own words (in writing).
Identify and select correct English vocabulary from a list of words
Complete sentences by filling in words and letters
Read out English sentences correctly
Respond to a question in writing
Respond to a question (into the microphone)
Describe a picture (into the microphone)
Interview & Writing
You choose one topic from two that you would like to talk about in a short video interview
You have up to three minutes to comment on the topic
Then you choose a topic you would like to write about
You have up to five minutes to write about the chosen topic
You will receive your test result within 48 hours!

What do I need to keep in mind?
Good, stable internet connection
You can only take the test on a computer or laptop with a camera, microphone, and speakers; tablets and cell phones are not permitted.
Headphones are not permitted.
No second monitor may be connected.
You will need a cell phone to film your keyboard and monitor.
Choose a well-lit, quiet room where you will be completely alone during the test.
How is the test evaluated?
You can reach a total score of 160 points
How to evaluate my result?
Each university requires different test scores
In the evaluation the results are divided into four areas
10-55 Points
60-85 Points
90-115 Points (Minimum requirement for most universities)
120-160 Points

How do I get my test results officially sent?
In your online account you can request to send your test results to different institutions. The universities will only accept the result as official if it has been sent this way
Simply click on SEND RESULTS next to your scores and click on UNIVERSITIES
Then you can select the universities relevant for you and click on NEXT
Confirm your selection and your results will be sent directly for FREE
Who needs to take the test?
All international students who wish to study at a U.S. university who are not native English speakers, and do not take/ have not taken the TOEFL
When is the optimal time for testing?
It is recommended that you take the Duolingo as early as possible.
Important:
if you are not yet of legal age, your legal guardians must agree that you may take the test. They must therefore write an email to englishtest-support@duolingo.com and give permission for you to take the DuoLingo. The email must contain your full name and the email address with which you are registered for the test.
