General Duolingo information

General Duolingo information

Duolingo is one of several alternatives to TOEFL recognized by colleges. The advantages of the test are obvious:
  • It costs only $70.
  • It is flexible in terms of dates.
  • It can be taken online from home.
  • It only takes 60 minutes.
  • Results are available after 48 hours.
  • Scores are sent to universities free of charge.
  • Free sample tests are available before payment.
The disadvantage of Duolingo is that unfortunately not all universities accept the test as an alternative to TOEFL, whereas TOEFL is widely recognized. However, around 85-90% of universities now accept Duolingo and usually require 100-120 points. Before you take Duolingo instead of TOEFL, talk to us or the universities you are already in contact with to make sure that Duolingo is accepted there.

IMPORTANT: Please note the following rules before taking the test:

  1. You can ONLY take the test on a laptop or computer.
  2. Download the DTP app to your smartphone.
  3. You must have a webcam and microphone.
  4. At the beginning of the test, you must film your keyboard with your cell phone.
  5. Follow the instructions to perform the “ear scan” to prove that you are not using headphones or other aids.
  6. You must not have a second monitor connected.
  7. All programs running in the background must be closed.
  8. You should look at the monitor as much as possible during the test, otherwise the test will not be evaluated.
  9. You must have an ID ready, which you will later hold up to the camera to verify your identity.
  10. No other person may be in the room during the test.
