What is the Online Application?

You can enroll at your future university via the online application. We will usually send you the link, but you can also find it on the university's website. There is often a separate application for international students, so make sure you use the correct link.
It is also important to select the correct application:
  1. If you are studying at a university for the first time, you are a freshman, incoming freshman, or undergraduate.
  2. If you are already studying, you are a transfer student (in the middle of your studies) or a graduate student (if you already have a bachelor's degree).

Note:
Some universities do not have their own online application and ask you to fill out the Common App. In this case, please refer to this article on the Common App.
The online application process varies from university to university, so there is no one-size-fits-all guide.

At most universities, the first step is to create an account so that you can access the university portal at any time later on. Many universities have a dedicated area where you can upload documents such as certificates, a copy of your passport, and PDFs of your test results.

The following information is usually requested:
Personal details such as your name, date of birth, address, and phone number. Sometimes these details do not fit into the predefined fields, in which case you will need to adjust them, even if the number is then incorrect.
Questions about your citizenship and whether you are currently in the US. If you do not have an American passport, you are a resident alien.
Sometimes you will be asked what visa you need; you always need an F1 visa.
Your parents' details and, in some cases, information about your parents' education. You will often be asked about siblings and whether anyone in your family has already studied at this university.
