American colleges are required by immigration authorities to obtain proof of financial support from every international applicant, including all additional costs for a full academic year. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to cover the following costs.
Tuition fees
Accommodation
Meals
Books and materials
Health insurance
Travel expenses
Other costs ( e.g. pocket money)
Info:
The amount to be proven by the applicant or their parents is calculated as the difference between the total amount and the scholarship amount.
Amount to be proven = total costs - scholarship
In most cases, the amount to be documented is higher than the personal contribution agreed with the coach/college. This is because the amount to be documented includes estimated amounts for items such as flights and pocket money.
Affidavit of Support
An Affidavit of Support is a statement from your sponsor (e.g., your parents) confirming that they will provide you with a certain amount of financial support for your studies. Many colleges have a pre-printed form for this purpose. If your college does not, we have a sample letter for you.
Info:
The Affidavit of Support does not constitute a legal financial obligation for the sponsor. Rather, it is a declaration of intent to provide financial support to the applicant in relation to their studies.
Bank Statement
In addition to the Affidavit of Support, a bank statement must be submitted. This allows the sponsor to prove that they are not only willing but also able to provide the applicant with financial support in the amount specified. The bank statement must be issued and signed by the sponsor's bank.
Hint:
Unfortunately, some banks are not particularly cooperative when it comes to providing this proof. If you encounter any difficulties, please let us know. We have always found a solution so far.
