Embassy appointment

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
(Place these in the first folder, in the order listed below):
  1. Original I-20, signed by the student and, if the student is under 18, also by a legal guardian.
  2. Valid passport with at least two blank pages.
  3. DS-160 confirmation page (the page with the photo and barcode).
  4. SEVIS fee payment receipt ($350).
  5. Recent photo, size 5 cm x 5 cm, white background. Although it can be taken at the embassy, it is recommended to bring it already prepared.
RECOMMENDED DOCUMENTS
(Keep these in a second folder):
  1. Appointment confirmation page (includes barcodes).
  2. Financial documents: bank statement, affidavit of support, and scholarship letter (if applicable).
  3. Certificate of residence or family book.
  4. School transcripts (ESO, Bachillerato, or equivalent) and a copy of Duolingo or SAT results.
  5. A list with the usernames of all social media accounts, which must be public. This document is not submitted, but questions may be asked about it during the interview.
HOW IS THE INTERVIEW?
  1. The embassy process is straightforward. First, you will submit your documents and complete fingerprinting.
  2. Then, there will be a short interview with the consular officer. It can be in Spanish or English, and the questions are usually basic, such as:
    1. Which university are you going to attend?
    2. What are you going to study?
    3. Who is paying for your studies? (You can say part is covered by the family and part by the university if there is a scholarship.)
    4. How long will you stay in the U.S.? (Usually 4 years.)
    5. What sport do you play?
  3. There is no need to give complicated answers. The most important thing is to answer confidently (especially if the interview is in English) and clearly state the intention to return to Spain after finishing the studies.
