Unfortunately, the DS-160 website is technically outdated and no longer up to date. First of all, you should not use the Safari browser, make sure that you have a strong Wi-Fi connection and that you are using a computer and not a smartphone or tablet.
In our experience, the Microsoft Edge browser is the most stable, but Chrome or Firefox and Edge will also work. If you are kicked out, log back in with your application ID (starts with AA) and continue where you left off via "Retrieve an application"
Only if you get the message that your name or date of birth is incorrect do you have to start with a new application.
