Create a College Swimming application video

The video is an important part of the recruiting process, as it helps make your profile more complete and allows coaches to get a better understanding of your current level and your potential for improvement. While results are very important in swimming, the video provides valuable context about your technique, your competitive mindset, and your attitude as an athlete.

The goal is to clearly show your performance in competition, your technique, and your attitude both in and out of the water.

This guide explains what to include in your video and what information you need to prepare.

Presentation Video for Coaches

The video should combine different sections to give a complete view of the swimmer:

1. Personal and Athletic Introduction

Start with a brief introduction about yourself, both personally and as an athlete. You can include:

  • Name, age, and school year
  • Main events or strokes
  • Current level
  • Training routine and frequency
  • Motivation for studying and competing in the United States

The goal is for coaches to get to know you quickly and have a clear context from the beginning.

2. Main Competition Performances

Include videos or clips of your main events in competition.

  • It is recommended to include at least one full event.
  • Make sure you are clearly identified (indicating your lane or marking yourself with an arrow, circle, or text).
  • Include basic information such as the event name and the competition.

This makes it much easier for coaches to analyze your performance.

3. Training Videos

Also include training videos where your technique and work ethic are clearly visible.

Examples:

  • Starts
  • Turns
  • Stroke technique
  • Specific drills

This type of content helps coaches see your progression and your attitude in daily training.

4. Images and Editing

You can add elements that make the video more dynamic:

  • Photos as an introduction to different sections of the video
  • Text on screen to provide context
  • Optional voice-over explaining what is being shown

The goal is to make the video clear, organized, and easy to follow.

Additional Information Needed

In addition to the video, it is important to prepare the following:

  • Official personal bests for each event, including the exact date and whether it was in a 25m or 50m pool.
  • Athletic resume, including your most significant achievements.
